Dance & Movement for Expectant Mums and Parents with Babies

MAMA IN MOTION creates an open and relaxed space for exercise for pregnant women and parents with babies.

The programme was developed by Martha Hirschhorn, a dance and theatre practitioner, dance and movement therapist, and a mother herself.

The focus is on the opportunity to stay active, dance and rediscover your own body during this special phase of life – without any pressure to perform. MAMA IN MOTION invites you to continue seeing yourself as an active and dynamic person and to tailor your movement to what is possible for you individually.

Each session combines movement, body awareness, dance and improvisation. Set to music, participants strengthen and stretch, improvise and explore their own bodies, acknowledging the changes and possibilities they offer. Babies are naturally welcome to join in – whether in the womb, in a baby carrier, in their mum’s arms, beside the participants or right in the middle of the action.

Nothing is compulsory – everything is optional.

The programme is aimed at pregnant women at all stages of pregnancy, as well as parents with babies. All body types and fitness levels are welcome. The classes take place at family centres in Friedrichshain and are deliberately accessible and non-commercial. Participation is on a donation basis or via a flat fee for the instructor.
