High heels, corsets, chest binders and similar objects can enable performers to perceive, experience and inhabit their bodies differently.
Somatic practices, on the other hand, work with inward-focused attention and interoception to give rise to external forms and other forms of self-perception.
Drawing on their shared artistic practice, Olympia Bukkakis and Maria F. Scaroni combine the development of personas, Authentic Movement, improvisation and lip-syncing.
Participants will explore these approaches and use them to develop their own short drag and performance pieces. Bukkakis and Scaroni presented their somatic drag practice at ImPulsTanz in 2025 and 2026 and developed their first joint duet, ‘Unsex Me Here’, for the Sophiensæle in Berlin.
Target audience: Performers and professional dance practitioners based in Berlin or whose work or life centres there. In the afternoon, participants will have time to continue working independently on their own drag acts. The workshop concludes on the second day with a one-hour group showcase.
