THE GREEK THEATRE FESTIVAL BERLIN

“Manoli…!” (1986) delicately strikes a balance between personal tragedy and political issues. Maria, a sixty-year-old widow, speaks to her only companion: her cat, Manoli. Her son, Manos, was murdered by paramilitary forces in the courtyard of their own home during the 1974 coup. In defiance of oblivion and silence, Maria transforms her kitchen into an improvised tribunal to demand truth and justice.

Three days, five plays, two stages. From 20 to 22 November 2026, the Greek Theatre Festival Berlin will raise the curtain for the very first time.

The newly founded festival will celebrate its historic debut with an exclusive opening performance at the Greek Embassy on 20 November, before continuing its programme at the tak Theater Aufbau Kreuzberg on 21 and 22 November.

This marks the first time a permanent platform has been created to bring contemporary Greek and Cypriot theatre exactly where it belongs: in front of a live audience. The supporting programme includes post-performance discussions and meetings with the playwrights.
