Christmas – the festival of love, family, icing and burning Christmas trees. For Willi & Lisbeth, the protagonists of Gerd Normann’s marriage cabaret, Christmas is also a contemplative, musical affair – though not without a heated row.

On the advice of their GP, Lisbeth decides to persuade her husband to try cannabis therapy for his chronic back pain and gives him a joint. Amidst the scent of incense, the aroma of biscuits and the jingle of bells, Willi is transported into a euphoric state, whereupon the alluring Tinsel Fairy (Lina Lärche) appears to him at regular intervals and drives him mad with her beguiling songs. The Tinsel Fairy was the socialist answer to the capitalist Father Christmas.

Following the collapse of the GDR, she was no longer presented to the public and has since been eking out a bleak existence in a twilight world characterised by an excess of icing. Only Willi is capable of freeing her from this. But Lisbeth also has a say in the matter. Gerd Normann and Lina Lärche present the Festival of Love as a cheerful horror trip through the world of tinsel.
