'NoirBLUE – side B'

NoirBLUE – Side B is an in-situ solo performance by the Brazilian choreographer and artist Ana Pi. Drawing on healing processes and the radical imagination of the dance of the Transatlantic African diaspora, Pi’s work explores concepts of uprooting, belonging, memory, colours and everyday gestures.

The original project, comprising a film and a stage piece, grew out of a complex observation: in some historical languages, there was no word for ‘blue’, and some derived it from the word for ‘black’. Building on this etymological equation, the artist imagines an Atlantic journey between two colours: the blackness of the skin and the ultramarine blue pigment, thereby undermining the structures of invisibility.

At KW, choreography and black light alter the perception of the body, whilst Jideh High Elements’ vinyl soundscape—rooted in dub music—transports Ana Pi’s gestures into a space of timeless permanence.

The performance takes place in the attic of the KW, amidst KOO JEONG A’s installation [ SEVEN STARS ] (2020/2025/2026), which consists of phosphorescent paintings installed in a room carpeted with soft flooring.

In collaboration with the Bureau des arts visuels of the Institut français Germany, as part of the programme celebrating its 30th anniversary.
