Neighbourhoods make a difference!
This year, we are celebrating the 35th anniversary of the Berlin–Warsaw town twinning and the 35th anniversary of the German–Polish Neighbourhood Treaty. For the past ten years, the Culture Train has been connecting regions, cultures and generations between Berlin and Wrocław with its varied, multilingual and award-winning programme.
Now the Kulturzug is embarking on a new phase of its long-distance service. In cooperation with PKP Intercity and DB Fernverkehr, an additional carriage will be attached to the Berlin–Warsaw Eurocity train, hosting readings, film screenings, concerts, performances, installations, workshops, club nights and discussion panels.
Programme overview
The on-board programme is being implemented in collaboration with various partners, including the German-Polish Institute, the Polish Institute in Berlin, the Pilecki Institute in Berlin, the German-Polish House, the Goethe-Institut in Warsaw and many other stakeholders from the worlds of art, culture, education, politics and civil society in Berlin, Poznań and Warsaw.
The Culture Train serves as a hub for cross-border practices and challenges, bringing them to the wider public through art and culture. In doing so, it puts the content and objectives of the German-Polish Neighbourhood Treaty into practice and breathes life into them.
Admission to the events is free. A valid train ticket with a seat reservation for the relevant journey is required.
The network of German and Polish stakeholders from the participating cities, which has developed over more than 35 years, is brought to the fore and invites travellers to engage, both intellectually and practically, in the dialogue between the cities and regions on current issues.
At the same time, the cultural train also stands as a testament to the successful Oder Partnership, which will also be celebrating an anniversary in 2026. For twenty years, stakeholders in the region have been striving for closer cooperation, exchange and dialogue on an equal footing.
- The cultural programme is funded by the Lotto Foundation Berlin, the State of Berlin and the participating cities.
