What remains to be said about, and in the face of, disappearance? What do you say to a melting glacier, to the people you love, and to yourself, so as not to fall into silence?

Elisa Weinkötz’s debut, *Ferner*, follows a first-person narrator in snapshots: as they sweat, boil, lie awake; love, desire, grieve, hope. Not only are their relationships with A, their mother and grandmother riddled with fault lines, but their relationship with the world around them is also precarious. Across a vast geographical distance, the narrator takes an interest in the retreat of the Tyrolean Vernagtferner glacier – and in the way people talk about it.

The book will be launched in Salzburg at the end of October. At the Berlin launch, the text being read will resonate with dance and music. Three performers from Berlin’s contact improvisation community will translate the text into movement and sound. Together, they will explore the interplay of touch, gravity, closeness and distance.
