Bertram and Isolde, an ageing couple from Oldenburg, treat themselves to a short break in Heidelberg – in the hope that this romantic getaway will also clear the emotional fog from their marriage. The boutique hotel, however, is hardly worth the money. At least the pair discover a new favourite Italian restaurant: an atmospheric eatery on an old riverboat on the Neckar.

But as the week progresses, their marriage increasingly falls apart, and even their evening visits to the restaurant boat become more and more of a disappointment, a punishment, a torment.
With devastating force, the devilish invades their everyday life – until everything ends in disaster. And playing over it all, over and over again, is the old-school pop hit ‘Memories of Heidelberg’.
