Kurt Tucholsky was one of the best-known representatives of the Jewish intelligentsia before the Nazis seized power; a chronicler of his time and society, his humour was as sensitive as it was down-to-earth. Sharp criticism of the political climate and biting irony alternate in his work with light-hearted love stories and witty observations of everyday life.
