Musical

Rather than following classic musical tropes such as ‘princess seeks prince’, the show tells a story of friendship, loss and self-discovery – a musical full of rousing songs drawn from real life, which inspires you to set off on a journey!

Sam, aged 18, finds herself at a turning point in her life following the sudden death of her best friend Kelly: caught between grief, memories and a new beginning, she must decide whether to live up to others’ expectations or finally take the wheel herself.

By Kait Kerrigan & Bree Lowdermilk

(in German)

The authors, Kait Kerrigan (book & lyrics) and Bree Lowdermilk (music & lyrics), are among the defining voices of contemporary musical theatre and, with *The Mad Ones*, have created a captivating story about young people’s journey of self-discovery and self-realisation. Their works have won numerous awards and have built up an international fan base thanks to their feminist and socially conscious approach. Musical theatre actress Elisabeth Köstner made her highly acclaimed and celebrated directorial debut last year with “The Mad Ones” and, together with her team both on and off stage, demonstrates just how clever, moving and humorous young American musical theatre can be. Following its premiere at the Theaterhaus Hildesheim and guest performances in Hanover and Hamburg, ‘The Mad Ones’ can now be seen in Berlin for the first time at the Theater der Schwartzschen Villa!

“‘The Mad Ones’ is a musical that defies the clichés. A story of new beginnings, loss and grief at a time when you have absolutely no idea who you really are.” – Hildesheimer Allgemeine Zeitung
