A participatory solo performance

MATRIX OF MOURNING creates a ritual and artistic space for experience, in which visitors can engage with themes such as death, grief, loss and transition, as well as their own mortality.

Gestures and movements drawn from expressive mourning practices, alongside elements from death rituals, open up possibilities for shaping and embedding individual and collective processes of mourning that are not exclusively concerned with physical death.

The participatory performance invites encounters, exchange and resonance. Ilil Land-Boss acts as a ‘mourner’, expressing grief on behalf of others whilst simultaneously holding the shared space.

Spanning several days, both during the day and in the evenings, the performance seeks a continuity and duration that is ‘out of time’, as experienced in various contexts of mourning rituals.

A video installation ((by Ilil Land-Boss)) accompanies the live performance.

Visitors are welcome to bring personal items, flowers, photographs and much more that are connected to their grief or any process of saying goodbye.
