Children’s Tribunal on Climate Change

Three young people imagine that a climate catastrophe has struck, and they are sitting in the International Children’s Court. In the dock: their neighbour, Mrs Salzmann, who must explain why her lifestyle means she is not partly to blame for climate change.

At the end of the hearing, the children in the courtroom reach a decision: Is Mrs Salzmann partly to blame? Should she be found guilty or not?

Director Yüksel Yolcu and his ensemble guide their audience, in a multimedia production based on the book by Thomas Sutter, towards the central question of our time: when will people realise that there is no Plan B for this world? Can we still manage to stop climate change?

Video segments and documentary footage feature in this production alongside performative and evocative elements. A space for reflection emerges, inspiring everyone to take matters into their own hands.

For this production, a play featuring children and young people was staged for the first time at the ATZE Musiktheater. After all, it is children, above all, who look to the future with fear and do not understand why adults are shirking their responsibilities.
