bastille musique presents

At Trio Catch’s ‘Ohrknacker’ concerts, ears are opened up and new sounds are heard. Each concert centres on a single piece, which is performed twice, with a closer look at the work taking place in between performances through an exchange with the audience.

Everything is possible, nothing is compulsory: no age restrictions, no reservations, and no prior musical knowledge required. The event lasts a good hour, and the bar is open before and after the concert.

Free admission; advance booking recommended

On this occasion, Trio Catch will be presenting the piece *Wörtergärten* by Eneko Lacalle Berasategi, which the young Basque composer wrote for the trio in 2024. The composer will be in attendance.

Eneko Lacalle Berasategi: *Wörtergärten* (2024)

The musical translation of linguistic structures is a favourite area of experimentation for Eneko Lacalle Berasategi. In *Wörtergärten* (2024), he translates principles of grammar, phonology and rhythm from various languages into music. Chords and polyphonic sounds symbolise vowels, whilst consonants are interpreted as percussive and fricative sounds. These ‘word cells’ – a fusion of musical and linguistic elements – create a dense, pulsating tapestry of sound that brings the complexity of language to life acoustically.

A project by Trio Catch and bastille musique. Funded by the Berlin Cross-Art Form Grant Scheme.

Trio Catch:

  • Martin Adámek, clarinet
  • Eva Boesch, cello
  • Sun-Young Nam, piano

Catch! Captivating the audience. Masterfully bringing out the vastly different timbres of the clarinet, cello and piano, whilst constantly seeking out a shared, distinctive sound – this is what defines Trio Catch’s unique profile. Over the course of its fifteen-year history, the trio has collaborated with numerous composers, including Mark Andre, Georges Aperghis, Beat Furrer and Helmut Lachenmann, with whom it has also recorded various CDs and radio programmes. A busy concert schedule has taken Trio Catch throughout Europe and to Asia. Highlights of recent seasons have included performances at venues such as the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the Kölner Philharmonie, and festivals including the Bludenzer Tage zeitgemäßer Musik and Dialoge Salzburg in Austria; November Music in the Netherlands; the Festival Présences and Festival d’automne in Paris; Heidelberger Frühling; Eclat Stuttgart; the Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik; and Ultraschall Berlin. In 2024, they undertook their first tours of Spain and South Korea. In 2025, the trio premiered Mikel Urquiza’s Triple Concerto with the WDR Symphony Orchestra at the Cologne and Essen Philharmonic Halls and performed it with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France at the Festival Présences in Paris.Following the CDs ‘in between’ and ‘Sanh’ on col legno, the album ‘As if’ was released in 2019 on bastille musique; it was awarded, amongst other honours, the German Record Critics’ Prize and the Coups de Coeur from the Académie Charles Cros. The album ‘Gassenhauer’ followed in 2024 on bastille musique. In 2012, the trio won the Hermann and Milena Ebel Prize in Hamburg, the Berenberg Culture Prize in 2014 and the Dwight and Ursula Mamlok Prize in 2018. The trio is also active in music education; they held a teaching post at the Hamburg University of Music and the Performing Arts and gave workshops for students in the composition classes. In 2016, the Trio Catch launched its own series of concert-talks, ‘Ohrknacker’, which has been organised regularly by bastille musique in Hamburg and Berlin since 2018.
