Our Blue Planet III – the BBC’s spectacular new nature documentary series – will once again take television audiences in Germany on a journey into the world beneath the ocean’s surface from early January. Spanning a total of six episodes – co-produced and broadcast on ZDF – the third instalment of the award-winning Our Blue Planet series once again reveals exciting secrets and breathtaking wonders of our oceans, thanks to advances in camera technology and new scientific discoveries.

Shortly afterwards, the extraordinary underwater habitats and their inhabitants will also be on display as a live experience on a literally grand scale: ‘Our Blue Planet III – Live in Concert’, presented by BBC Studios and FKP Scorpio Entertainment, is going on tour across Germany.

  • Music by Oscar-winner Hans Zimmer, Thom Lukas & Laurentia Editha for Bleeding Fingers Music
  • Live presenter: Uli Kunz

Audiences at the live productions will be able to rediscover moments from the TV series – specially selected for the live version – in an extraordinary concert experience.

The breathtaking footage fills a state-of-the-art Ultra HD LED screen measuring 200 square metres – roughly the size of a tennis court – making it one of the largest screens of its kind to be used on an orchestral tour featuring film projections. Accompanying this, the renowned City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra performs live the impressive new film score by Oscar®-winning composer Hans Zimmer, as well as music by Thom Lukas and Laurentia Editha for Bleeding Fingers Music.

The new tour builds on the remarkable success of previous BBC Earth Live productions in Germany: the three ‘Planet Earth – Live in Concert’ shows, ‘Frozen Worlds – Live in Concert’ and ‘Our Blue Planet II – Live in Concert’ have already thrilled hundreds of thousands of visitors across the country over the past two decades. These outstanding BBC nature documentary series have thus established themselves as thrilling live shows, bringing some of television’s most spectacular wildlife footage to live audiences across the country.

The music for *Our Blue Planet III*, composed by the legendary Hans Zimmer, Thom Lukas and Laurentia Editha for Bleeding Fingers Music, follows in the tradition of the previous *Our Blue Planet* and *Planet Earth* series. As a soundtrack, it does not merely accompany the nature footage, but has helped to redefine what a nature documentary can sound like. It has been honoured with numerous BAFTA and Emmy awards and, just as in the series, plays a very special role as an emotional catalyst in the live production.

Hans Zimmer on the ‘Our Blue Planet III – Live in Concert’ production:

“There is nothing more wonderful than experiencing this film score live with an orchestra, especially when combined with the extraordinary images of life underwater. Thom, Laurentia and I are thrilled that the audience can enjoy our music in this way.”

Between the concert sequences, marine biologist and research diver Uli Kunz takes the audience on a journey of discovery and provides further insights into how this unique footage was created.

Uli Kunz has been a regular presenter on the ZDF documentary series Terra X since 2019. Ever since his first adventure as a young boy with diving goggles and a snorkel in Lake Constance, he has been fascinated by the world beneath the water’s surface, which has shaped his life and career.

  • The tour is presented by ZDF/Terra X.
