Princess* Schaming

Red face. Eyes on the floor.

The urge to vanish into thin air right then and there.

‍

Somewhere between shame-laden emotional outbursts, embarrassment, and self-empowerment, we try to get to the bottom of shame and make the difference between shamelessness, defense against shame, and impudence tangible. From ancient traditions to contemporary literature to today’s trash TV: Shame is the quiet voice that expresses itself in every human relationship. It teaches us to stay small, strike the right note, and meet expectations before they’re even voiced.

‍

How can this feeling be overcome? Or do people need shame—does it serve a purpose? Is dealing with shame only possible together? Everyone knows shame—but it’s rarely discussed. It’s high time to change that.
