Being a lesbian was taboo in the GDR for a long time; often, women* lacked even the words with which to describe themselves, their needs and their life plans, and thus to communicate. There were no official spaces serving as meeting places or other opportunities to make contact. Consequently, a wide variety of ways were sought to find like-minded people. The advertisements in the *Wochenpost* speak their own language.
