Public Tour I Staying Healthy in the Garden

Forest bathing, known as ‘Shinrin Yoku’ in Japanese, refers to consciously spending time amongst trees, engaging all the senses. You move slowly, pause, smell, touch and listen. Studies show that even a short period spent in this way reduces stress hormones and restores focus.

Hardly any other place is as well suited to Shinrin Yoku – forest bathing – as this one. Across 43 hectares, plant life from entire continents thrives here; just a few steps separate the native deciduous forest from the Alps, the Caucasus and the Far East. This density and diversity make forest bathing in the Botanical Garden something truly special. The aim of the circular walk is not to see as much as possible, but to slow down.

This route through the open grounds, adapted for those with limited mobility, takes you to some of the garden’s quietest corners. Amidst ancient trees and sweeping meadows, you’ll be guided through awareness exercises. You need no prior knowledge or particular level of fitness, just time and a willingness to embrace a different pace.

The session will still take place in bad weather – if necessary, it will be held in the greenhouses.

The Berlin Botanical Garden is committed to promoting health through nature.

As part of this pilot project, they invite you to provide feedback after the workshop and, in this way, help to collaboratively develop a concept for people with reduced mobility and their specific needs for the year 2027.

As a thank you, participation in the workshop and entry to the garden are free of charge.

The pilot project is funded by the Berlin Senate Department for the Environment.
