For children aged 6 to 12, max. 12 participants

The book is designed to help children focus better on individual sensory impressions and engage with things attentively and deeply. This is particularly valuable at a time when touchscreens, fast-paced games and ever-shorter attention spans characterise our everyday lives.

The story follows a walk from the village into the woods and back again. Each chapter explores this basic narrative from the perspective of one of the human senses.

The workshop begins with a reading from the book *The Book of the Five Senses*. Participants are invited to record their journey to the workshop venue on a very long roll of paper: what did they see, hear, feel, touch, smell or taste along the way?

A route with directional cues and a few landmarks can be sketched out on the roll of paper in advance. Materials available include coloured pencils, felt-tip pens, wax crayons and blow pens (or any materials on hand).

The drawings can be combined with collages and frottages. Depending on requirements, the workshop can also be adapted to a tour of the gallery or the workshop room in question.

Optionally, the exercise can be supplemented with a small tasting session (e.g. fruit) or fresh flowers to smell.

Lucie Lučanská (1990)* is a Czech illustrator and author of books and comics for children and adults. She studied at the Studio of Illustration and Graphic Design at UMPRUM (Vysoká škola uměleckoprůmyslová v Praze, i.e. the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague), where she subsequently obtained her PhD. In her work, she enjoys experimenting with the formal possibilities of the comic medium, combining sharply drawn lines with delicate watercolour painting, and is often inspired by medieval imagery.

Her book *Pod stanem* (English: *Under the Tent*) won the 5th edition of the international ‘Serpa International Picture Book Award’ competition, to which more than 675 entries from around the world were submitted. In 2026, she was among the finalists of the prestigious international ‘Bologna Portfolio Award’ competition, held as part of the Bologna Children’s Book Fair. She collaborates with Czech and international publishers. Her *Kniha vnímání* (English: *The Book of the Five Senses*) is due to be published in German in 2026.

The workshop will take place as part of the programme accompanying the exhibition AHÓÓÓÓÓJ! at the Bibliothek am Wasserturm.
