Gudrun Sailer presents her exhibition GRENZVERSCHIEBUNGEN at the Bernau Gallery

The exhibition GRENZVERSCHIEBUNGEN by the artist Gudrun Sailer brings the year’s theme of (UM)BRÜCHE to a close. The sculptor and painter experienced the major social upheaval – the collapse of the GDR – towards the end of her studies.

In 1991, she began working as a freelance artist in her studio in Eberswalde. She develops her works through layering. They feature almost infinite edges and breaks. The artist is guided, amongst other things, by her materials; she shapes, provokes and utilises experiences that push boundaries.

1/4 Unconventional vitality.

From the raw mass of clay or the blank canvas, she embarks on a process—akin to a biography—marked by twists and turns, relationships, interdependencies, breaks and nuances, right through to the completion of the work.

All of this remains visible in her works; they seem almost to want to keep evolving. Her figures often depict movement, yet at the same time they appear, in part, as if fractured, in a state of transition between human, plant or stone-like beings.

As well as forms and colours, the firing processes with which Sailer experiments are also varied.

In GRENZVERSCHIEBUNGEN, Gudrun Sailer presents recent works from the past few years that build on her long-standing body of work.

She places them in relation to one another within her own micro-worlds, thereby inviting visitors to immerse themselves and engage with the (dis)ruptions from which something new can continually emerge.
