Too warm for the GDR? – Queer life between conformity and emancipation How did lesbian, gay and queer people live in the GDR? What challenges, spaces of freedom and forms of resistance shaped their everyday lives?
This event focuses on the four decades of the GDR – the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s and 1980s – and traces the chronological development of homosexuality, homophobia, emancipation and sexual culture. Through historical insights and group discussions, a vivid picture emerges of queer life caught between social constraints and growing visibility.
An exciting journey through time for anyone interested in history, social change and queer perspectives. No prior knowledge is required.
